Challenging Books

Adventures and beliefs of my life with God

This list of books is more challenging than the books found on the Book Studies page. These deal with history but, many times not directly related to the New Testament or Jesus. Rather related to other parts of the long story of humanity and how people progressed and lived in the past. These are not easy books with familiar words, cities, or nations. Sometimes, I just ignore the various details such as people’s unpronounceable names, or adjectives not found in an English dictionary. The foreign words are not easy to find a translation because the language used centuries ago has disappeared. Scholars, archeologist, and linguist probably know the word’s meaning but normal people and normally used translation apps do not. Sometimes, I think university scholars studying ancient times, just guessing, and others agree to agree. Even in the current version of the Old Testament there are words which have uncertain meaning. Such as Levithan or the gemstones used in ancient Israel. A quick read through the Wikipedia page- Gemstones in the Bible will give a better understanding of translation of lost words.

In the Old Testament, Persia is mentioned many times. At one point Persia was the most powerful, exquisite, and richest empite in the near or far east. The Bible mentions Perian rulers Cyrus the great, Darius, and Xerxes in books of Esther, Daniel, Ezra, and Nehemiah.

There are organizations today that are working to transform modern day Iran by setting the people free and provide the life-giving knowledge of Jesus to many spiritual hungry Iranians.
